Instant results

If you're willing to settle only for instant results, you're seriously limiting what you can accomplish. Most things of great value take some time to achieve.

It is good to take action. It is far more powerful to take focused, sustained action.

The results you're willing to wait for are the results that will last the longest. The time you invest in creative, productive, effective effort will always pay the greatest dividends.

If you're always chasing instant results, life will be a constant struggle. By contrast, you can do the work of fifty, a hundred, a thousand people or more by spreading the effort over time.

Just imagine the incredible, lasting value you'll be able to create. When your efforts build upon each other, there is no limit to how far you can go.

Persist in your work, and you will be abundantly rewarded. The results that come over time are far and away the most precious.

The smallest changes

The smallest changes can make the biggest difference. Because the smallest changes are the ones you can repeat over and over again.

The once-in-a-lifetime events are indeed impressive, and they certainly command your attention. Yet the routine, once-a-day actions can have a far greater impact because they are done again and again.

Every few seconds, for example, you take a breath of air, and rarely do you ever even think about doing it. Yet this small, regularly repeated action literally sustains your life and makes all your other activities possible.

When you want to make it big, think small. Find the small, easily accomplished actions that will steadily take you to your most ambitious goals.

The biggest problems will almost always yield to the smallest changes. Because the smallest changes can be overwhelmingly relentless, like tiny drops of rain wearing away the most massive boulder.

When you seek a big result, start with the small changes. They are the ones that will most reliably get you there.

Dare to wonder

Combine that curiosity and wonder of a child with the discipline and focus of an adult. You'll find the result to be pure genius.

Choose to grow

As you grow, you can take the best of who you already are, and expand on it. Growth does not change you into a different person, but enables you to more fully express your own uniqueness.

As you grow, you become more completely and more authentically who you are. As you grow, your own special goodness becomes more prominent and the limitations steadily fall away.

Choose not to merely let this day come and go without any positive progress. On this day, with what you have and where you are, choose to grow.

Difficult truths

When the truth hurts, it is tempting to ignore it or to deny it. Yet when the truth hurts is precisely the time when it's most important to pay attention to what that truth says.

A real friend is someone who has the courage to speak truthfully to you, even though that truth may be painful to hear. For by knowing and acknowledging the reality of a situation, you can begin to successfully deal with it.

When the truth hurts, it can indeed be painful. Yet if you will listen carefully, you'll gain the wisdom to avoid even more pain and to move positively forward.

When you encounter a truth that is painful to hear, that pain is doing you a favor. It is providing you with an opportunity to make a change for the better.

Take that opportunity and run with it. Be thankful that a difficult and valuable truth has succeeded in getting your attention.

In the difficult truths you will find much power. Though the truth may hurt for a moment, in the long run it can also set you free.

Your assumptions

It's difficult to see what you assume is not there. It's impossible to accomplish what you assume you cannot do.

Be careful not to become a prisoner of your own assumptions. Though assumptions can be useful, they can also become obsolete.

If nothing seems to be working for you, that's a good sign that it's time to re-examine your assumptions. Often, a simple change in your assumptions can open you up to a whole new level of valuable and positive possibilities.

What might seem totally absurd at the moment could very well become completely reasonable after a change in assumptions. What may once have been unquestionably out of your reach could quickly become very accessible with a change in your assumptions.

What is possible for you is firmly rooted in what you assume to be possible. The world you see is based largely on the world you assume is there.

Your assumptions have a powerful influence on the substance and quality of your life. Renew, replace, and reinvigorate your assumptions so as to always keep their power working in your favor.
