The thing to do

When you don't know how you'll continue, the thing to do is to focus on the next effort. The more diligently you work on it, the more good and valuable options you'll see opening up to you.

Whatever may come your way, the thing to do is to make the most of all that you have to work with. And every moment will move you closer to where you have chosen to go.

Discover for yourself

The things you know without a doubt are the things you discover and experience for yourself. Though others can guide you, lecture you, persuade you, scold you or encourage you, what becomes a part of you is what you experience for yourself.

Your belief may indeed be strong and unwavering. Yet there is a difference between belief and certainty.

Certainty comes when you actually live your beliefs and put them into practice on an ongoing basis. For that is when you will discover and experience for yourself the essence of their truth.

It is interesting to speculate about what might and might not be true, what might and might not happen, what may or may not work. It is powerful indeed to know for sure.

What you've been told is a good starting point. Take it further, put it into practice and discover for yourself.

Honor your faith, your trust, your belief by bringing it all to life through your efforts. Truth will rise to a whole new level when you discover and experience it for yourself.

Berikut cuplikan berita seputar peluncuran Gelang Peduli "Indonesia Bersatu" - IndonesiaUnite Wristband : Bertempat di Gedung Aneka Bhakti Departemen Sosial Republik Indonesia, Jl. Salemba Raya No.28 Jakarta, pada tanggal 15 Agustus 2005 yang lalu telah dilakukan peluncuran perdana Gelang Peduli Merah Putih "INDONESIA BERSATU" oleh Bapak Bachtiar Chamsyah, S.E. selaku Menteri Sosial Republik Indonesia.

Assumptions

There are some assumptions that you have no choice but to make, and they can at times be helpful. Many assumptions, though, just get in the way.

When you assume that a task will be difficult, you'll likely make it even more difficult than it otherwise would have been. When you assume that something will be easy, that can lead to needless frustration and dismay when unexpected challenges arrive.

Instead of putting your energy into making assumptions, put that energy into being fully aware. Pull away the mask of your assumptions, and there is much you'll suddenly be able to see.

Rather than assuming what you'll find around the next bend, make the journey and experience what is really there. Instead of assuming how someone will be, make the effort to truly get to know that person.

When you assume, realize full well that you're doing it. And know that you could indeed be wrong.

Are there assumptions you hold that could be holding you back? Look beyond them and find much value in what is really there.

How good you have it

It's easy for the pressing problems of the moment to overwhelm your thinking. So it's up to you to provide a powerful, positive alternative.

When you have something to be thankful for, you have something real and valuable to go on. You have a solid foundation from which to build.

And no matter where you may be or what may have happened, you do indeed have many things for which you can be truly thankful. The more completely you stay connected to them, the more surely life will move in the direction you desire.

Berikut adalah hasil wawancara saya dengan seorang web designer handal-nya Indonesia (kebetulan juga a friend of mine), pemilik dari Tulakom web design yaitu Satya Witoelar. Interview kali ini akan berbicara seputar peluncuran website tulakom.com versi 4 (v4).

tulakom.com - v3 (2004)

Viking Karwur (VK) : Selamat ya atas design baru tulakom.com, kapan di luncurkan.
Satya Witoelar (SW) : Udah launch kemarin sore sih (18 Agustus - red)

VK : Langsung aja nih, ceritain dong konsep untuk tulakom.com v4 ?
SW : konsepnya gak keren2 amat... hanya dua.
1) karena gua bosen dan takut orang lain (yang bukan client) bosen
2) kapok kemaren sempet hilang dari google, jadi sekarang ga mau pakai trick seluruh content di satu halaman. sekarang dibagi2 aja per halaman, karena search engines udah makin pinter.
dengan kata lain, sebetulnya alasannya teknis, tapi ya sekalian aja look-nya diupdate dikit

VK : ceritain dong tentang design yang kayak Mirror Reflect (coba lihat tutorial di sini - red) ... ide nya dari mana nih ?
SW : oh itu pernah lihat aja ada yang pakai. tapi gua pakai sekalian utk footer. jadi sebetulnya detailsnya udah ada semua, gua cuman menggabungkan, lalu lihat mana yang harus dikurangi. setelah dikurangi satu2, jadilah. jadi prosesnya kaya bikin gado2, terus yang kurang asik dibuang. kebayang waktu tengah proses designnya norak banget haha.

VK : nah design kali ini udah CSS / Tableless / XHTML ya ?
SW : kalo itu udah dari versi lama (versi 3 - 2004 red). version 3 (2004) udah valid xhtml and css. versi 3 itu paling experimental, codes sangat efisien, dan pakai trick hidden keywords yang illegal. Saat itu pula Viking nemu tulakom kan?

VK : boleh tahu gak kalau versi lama hit nya per bulan berapa ?
SW : saat itu bisa 30000 per bulan. lalu setelah "dihukum" google, jadi kapok dan sekarang 1000 per bulan pun gak ngeluh, soalnya yang penting hit quality atau hit relevance. usaha2 untuk ngotot banyak hits saya curahkan ke website2 lain aja. beda dengan sebelumnya ini lebih long term aja, sambil antisipasi bahwa search engines akan makin pinter jadi dari saya no more games lah. kalo v3 itu technically valid tapi morally curang. kali ini sih gak mau curang2an deh.

VK : Ok... Good designer - Good Moral ya ? Boleh tahu, web designer yang jadi inspirasi Satya ?
SW : ga tahu kebanyakan web designer gimana, tapi gua suka sih lihat design yang experimental, tapi selalu lebih respect dengan gaya mainstream yang bisa diaplikasi untuk menjangkau audience sebanyaknya. jawabannya, tidak ada favorite designer sih, hanya lihat2 inspiration sites semacam coolhomepages sambil dengerin apa kata Jakob Nielsen. kalo sekarang.. sekarang ya lebih banyak lihat css inspiration sites seperti css beauty, css vault, stylegala dan semacamnya. masih soal designer yang jadi inspirasi, kalau harus sebut nama mungkin gang-nya Ryan Sims, Cameron Moll, dan kawan2nya.

VK : ok... ada pesan-pesan buat web designer indo khususnya yang freelance ?
SW : pesan utk teman2 designer.. salut aja atas karya2nya, rasanya gua ga bisa ngajarin karena gua sesama designer juga.. kalo mau bikin yang experimental ya silakan aja malah bagus banget itu memberi inspirasi, tapi kalo mau mulai cara faedah nyata ya mulai mikirin design yang usable.. dan jangan lupa networking, ikut competition, bikin portfolio, ikut milis webpm dan baca blog-nya viking

Damai di Aceh

Reunian '93 - SMA 1 PSKD

Jumat minggu kemarin, bertempat di Popeye Sabang : Temen-temen Angkatan 93 SMA 1 PSKD Jakarta *reunian*. Yang datang ada Donald, Raden, Steve, Yudha, Fitri, Irma, Ratih, Santi dan Aku.

Karena Popeye akan tutup, kita pindah ke Olala Cafe di bawah Djakarta Theater. Dan kita dapat tempat duduk di luar. Wah banyak sekali cerita-cerita yang kita share di sana. Anyway, secara tidak langsung Friendster "mempertemukan" kita semua...

Una Familia Humana

Let your efforts flow

Trying too hard can often be as unproductive as not trying at all. Pushing yourself too hard sends an unspoken yet powerful message that you lack confidence in your own efforts.

Instead of forcing your efforts, seek to simply let them flow. Instead of being consumed with thoughts of how much or how little progress you're making, focus on the real substance of the effort.

When you wander a little off track, there's no need to despair or to work yourself up over it. Put that energy into pointing yourself back in the right direction.

Real progress will come at the pace at which you can give yourself fully and sincerely to the effort. If you attempt to rush the process, you may accumulate some meager tokens of success, but you will fall short of achieving real success itself.

Life already has enough pressures. There is no need to add more by pressuring yourself. Relax and let your efforts flow. That is how you can be your very best.

* Saya mengalami error message ketika mengirimkan sms dengan pesan : Vote Bubu B6 / VOTE BUBU B6 yaitu :

Error #1 : "Maaf, Pilihan yang anda ketik tidak tersedia. Ketik VOTE BUBU (PILIHAN). Pilihan yang tersedia B1-B10 dan C1-C10"

Error #2 : "Maaf, keycode yang anda masukan salah"

Setelah mengetahui ada masalah pada vote sms, saya mencoba untuk menginformasikan kepada Panitia BuBuAwards 2005 dengan mengirim e-mail di panitia@bubuawards.net

Hasilnya : return-mail karena tidak ada account "panitia" di domain bubuawards.net :)

Dreamland, Bali

Waktu ke Bali kemarin, ada satu tempat (kayaknya sih Surfing Spot gitu) yang keren banget. Boleh deh bandingin dengan Pantai Kuta. Namanya Dreamland. Lokasinya berada di daerah Pecatu, setelah Jimbaran (dari GWK ke arah Uluwatu). Masuk ke Komplek Perumahan Pecatu.

Cuman bayar "sumbangan" parkir sebesar Rp. 5000,- kita da bisa lihat pantai pasir putih yang sangat menawan. Saya baru kali ini datang ke Dreamland Bali. Saya ditemani kakak saya Youth ke Dreamland. Dengan meminjam kamera digital K'Jean saya mengambil beberapa gambar di sana. Kebetulan saya mampir di sana waktu sore hari, karena beberapa kali siang hari di daerah Jimbaran dan Pecatu : hujan.

Buat yang mo Surfing coba aja ke sini. Pas aku datang ombaknya lumayan deh. Pas banget untuk itu.

See where you're going
