Never stop growing

Baca Mulai Dari Belakang

Membaca novel tentunya mulai dari depan atau dari awalnya. Demikian juga halnya dengan membaca biografi. Kita membaca biografi seseorang mulai dari kelahiran orang itu, lalu masa kecilnya, kemudian masa remajanya dan selanjutnya. Agak janggal kalau kita membaca novel atau riwayat hidup mulai dari belakang atau dari akhirnya.

Tetapi untuk membaca "riwayat hidup" Tuhan Yesus, kita perlu mulai dari belakang. Saya akan segera menjelaskan hal ini.

Janganlah Anda gusar kalau saya mulai dengan kalimat yang tampaknya seolah-olah menghujat atau meremehkan: peristiwa penjelmaan Allah dalam kelahiran Yesus sebenarnya tidak istimewa. Cerita kelahiran seperti itu banyak terdapat dalam budaya-budaya lain. Hampir tiap budaya tradisional mempunyai dongeng tentang Allah atau dewa yang turun ke dunia dan menjelma menjadi manusia. Ada cerita tentang dewa yang menjelma sebagai pertapa lanjut usia. Ada cerita tentang dewa yang menjelma menjadi seorang puteri yang cantik jelita. Ada pula cerita tentang dewa yang turun ke bumi sebagai seorang bayi mungil tersimpan dalam sebuah semangka.

Karena itu sebenarnya peristiwa kelahiran Tuhan Yesus tidak sangat istimewa. Seandainya kisah tentang kelahiran Yesus berhenti sampai di situ tanpa kelanjutan apa-apa; apakah sekarang kita menjadi murid dan pengikut-Nya? Agaknya tidak, sebab masakan kita menjadi murid dan pengikut seorang bayi?

Kita baru mulai tersentak untuk mengikut Yesus ketika sudah membaca berita tentang kenaikan-Nya ke surga menyusul kebangkitan-Nya dari kematian di kayu salib. Hati kita baru terperangah ketika sudah membaca tentang gaya hidup-Nya yang sungguh lain daripada yang lain. Jiwa kita baru tersentuh ketika sudah membaca pengajaran-Nya yang sungguh unik.

Jadi, keistimewaan kelahiran Yesus baru dapat dimengerti setelah kita membaca bagian tengah dan bagian akhir dari "riwayat hidup" Yesus. Kitab-kitab Injil menjadi lebih jelas kalau kita membacanya "mulai dari belakang", yaitu mulai dari kebangkitan Yesus. Kita menjadi orang percaya bukan karena kelahiran Yesus, melainkan karena kematian dan kebangkitan-Nya. Kelahiran Yesus belum memberi dampak apa-apa kepada iman kita. Dampak itu baru muncul dari hidup dan pengajaran-Nya. Sebab itu Natal tidak bisa berdiri sendiri terlepas dari Paskah.

Seandainya para rasul hadir di kandang Betlehem pada waktu kelahiran Yesus, mungkin mereka pun tidak dapat memberi kesaksian apa-apa. Orang yang menjadi saksi mata kelahiran Yesus belum bisa mengerti bahwa Yesus adalah Tuhan dan Juruselamat. Ketika para gembala datang ke kandang dan menceritakan bahwa menurut malaikat bayi ini adalah Juruselamat (lihat Luk 2:11-12); maka "semua orang yang mendengarkannya heran tentang apa yang dikatakan gembala-gembala itu" (ay. 18). Baru sekitar lima puluh tahun kemudian, seorang rasul secara eksplisit bisa bersaksi bahwa bayi di palungan itu adalah Anak Allah dan Penebus: "Tetapi setelah genap waktunya, maka Allah mengutus Anak-Nya, yang lahir dari seorang perempuan dan takluk kepada hukum Taurat. Ia diutus untuk menebus mereka ..." (Gal. 4:4-5)

Untunglah kelahiran Yesus disusul dengan masa dewasa-Nya di mana Ia mengajar, sebab kita percaya bukan kepada seorang bayi melainkan kepada seorang rabi yang mengajarkan dan meneladankan sebuah gaya hidup yang unik. Untunglah kelahiran Yesus disusul dengan kematian-Nya di salib sebab kita diselamatkan bukan oleh seorang bayi melainkan oleh Juruselamat yang memberi diri-Nya sendiri. Untunglah kelahiran Yesus disusul dengan kebangkitan dan kenaikan-Nya sebab kita berdoa bukan kepada bayi Yesus melainkan kepada Tuhan Yesus yang "duduk di sebelah kanan Allah" (rumus Pengakuan Iman Rasuli, tahun 540).

Sebab itu Natal baru mempunyai arti kalau dilihat dari bagian akhir hidup Yesus. Kita baru bisa memahami kedalaman arti Natal kalau kita memahami karya Yesus sepanjang hidup-Nya yang mencapai klimaks ketika Ia dibangkitkan Allah dari kematian sebagai tanda bahwa Allah mengabsahkan segala karya hidup-Nya. Kesaksian kita kepada masyarakat bukanlah tentang seorang bayi mungil melainkan tentang seorang pria berusia 33 tahun yang memberi keseluruhan diri-Nya sampai mati di atas kayu salib. Pusat pemberitaan gereja bukanlah inkarnasi Yesus (Allah menjadi manusia) melainkan diri dan misi Yesus selama 33 tahun di bumi. Tanpa karya hidup Yesus maka peristiwa inkarnasi di Betlehem tidak ada artinya. Di sinilah letak perbedaan antara Injil dengan segala cerita-cerita mengenai inkarnasi para dewa yang lazim dikenal di budaya-budaya tradisional.

Oleh karena karya hidup Yesus itulah, sekarang kita tahu mengapa kita merayakan Natal. Kita merayakan lahirnya seseorang yang 33 tahun kemudian memberi pegangan hidup, bahkan makna hidup, kepada umat manusia.

Perayaan Natal menjadi lebih berarti karena kita tahu bahwa bayi yang kita sambut ini tidak terus menerus berada di palungan Betlehem, melainkan bertumbuh menjadi guru yang mengajar di tepi sungai Yordan dan kemudian dipaksa berjalan terbungkuk-bungkuk memikul salib menaiki tangga kota Yerusalem, tetapi kemudian bangkit kembali dan berdiri dengan tegap di bukit Galilea serta bersabda, "Kepada-Ku telah diberikan segala kuasa di surga dan di bumi. Karena itu pergilah, jadikanlah semua bangsa murid-Ku dan baptislah mereka dalam nama Bapa dan Anak dan Roh Kudus, dan ajarlah mereka melakukan segala sesuatu yang telah Kuperintahkan kepadamu. Dan ketahuilah, Aku menyertai kamu senantiasa sampai kepada akhir zaman" (Mat. 28:18-20).

Seandainya kisah kelahiran Yesus adalah ibarat bab pertama dari cerita bersambung, maka bab pertama ini baru menjadi jelas duduk perkaranya kalau kita sudah membaca bab terakhirnya. Kita jadi melihat bahwa Natal sungguh patut dirayakan. Kita jadi tahu apa sebabnya kita merasa berbahagia pada hari Natal. Kita jadi mantap dan berucap, "Selamat Natal!"

Enjoy now

It doesn't have to be that way. You don't have to base your enjoyment on getting more.

There is plenty of life, right here and now, for you to enjoy. In this moment is everything you need to fully and completely enjoy the wonder and beauty of being alive.

It is great when you aspire and work toward bigger and better things in your life. For that adds positive value to the whole world.

And yet, there is never any need to put off your happiness, enjoyment and fulfillment until later, until some specific condition is met. Now is the moment you're in and now is your moment to enjoy.

So stop perpetuating the deception in your own mind that you don't have enough, for in this very moment you have plenty. Choose to enjoy life fully, right now, for that is the surest way to make it great.

Baru kembali dari Surabaya

Kemarin malam saya baru saja kembali dari Surabaya, saya berangkat ke Surabaya di hari minggu siang untuk menjadi pembicara dalam Workshop InfoCentral GPIB di MUPEL Jawa Timur yang diadakan pada hari senin pagi di tempat pertemuan GPIB Maranatha Surabaya.

Pulang-pergi naik pesawat (Batavia Air & Adam Air) : sama-sama kena turbulence terus... sejak +/- 10 menit take-off (lumayan banget deh). Memang cuaca tuh berawan... Untung saja sampai kembali di Rumah dengan selamat. Pas mo pulang Jakarta, Pesawat Adam Air delayed hampir 2 jam karena "alasan teknis" katanya...

Ultimate success

When you have a setback, that's not a signal to abandon the endeavor. In fact, it is a sign that you are making progress.

When the desired result is not achieved, you could consider it a failure, but that would be a mistake. Instead, see it as just another step on the path to success.

Taking a step backward can ultimately help you to move forward. For the next step you take is more experienced, more finely tuned, and more closely in line with the reality of the situation.

An important part of the determination to succeed is the willingness to fail, and the confidence to see every failure as temporary. So go ahead and have that confidence to explore fresh ideas and attempt ambitious new projects.

Of course you'll make mistakes and occasionally run into some dead ends. And each time you do, you'll be moving forward toward ultimate, certain success.

Appreciate the possibilities

In the smallest detail of life there is much for which to be thankful. In all of life itself there is no limit to the possibilities for appreciation.

In each day, in each moment, life's blessings continuously pour forth. In the quiet times, in the grand and magnificent experiences, there is always richness upon richness in the living of life.

Certainly there are disappointments and pains that come along on a regular basis. Yet when you stand back and look at the big picture, those difficult moments, as intense as they are, only make up a tiny fraction of the overall possibilities.

On the whole, life is exceedingly worth any trouble, any setback, any difficulty. For always there are countless possibilities of goodness stretching out in every direction.

The simple appreciation of the positive possibilities in any moment will begin to bring the best of those possibilities to life. Merely recalling how good life can be will serve to make it truly better.

Life asks much of you, and yet it gives far, far more than it asks. Appreciate the countless possibilities, and you can indeed make the best of them real.

Baru saja saya menerima kiriman CD-ROM gratis distro linux Ubuntu. Tidak perlu untuk menginstall di komputer saya yang masih berbasiskan Windows XP Home Edition... Dengan CD live nya saya reboot saja komputer saya, dan kemudian dengan mudahnya saya sudah bisa merasakan GUI Ubuntu yang keren. Telah di dukung software oleh Firefox, Firebird, OpenOffice, Gaim.

Buat yang berada di Jabotabek dan sekitarnya yang menginginkan CD-ROM Distro Linux Ubuntu yang Gratis bisa menghubungi saya di no hp, nanti kita ketemuan dan saya akan kasih - Gratis. (sorry, saya gak bisa kirim ke alamat rumah. Yang mau harus ngambil ya...)

Anxiety

As soon as anxiety gets your attention, its job is done. From that point on, there is no good reason to maintain that anxiety.

Anxiety can be useful in making you aware of actions that need to be taken. As soon as you have that awareness, anxiety has served its purpose.

After that, give your energy to the positive action and not to the anxiety. Undertake to correct the problem and not to helplessly obsess over it.

It is good and useful that anxiety can get your attention. Yet it serves no positive purpose for anxiety to overwhelm your thinking.

The moment you feel anxiety, look for, and begin to execute, a positive course of action. Quickly choose to let go of that anxiety, for it is of no use to you now.

Anxiety never needs to weigh you down. Let it come, let it have its say, and quickly let it go as you take action to move forward.
