Building confidence

The confidence to do the big things comes from the experience of willingly and reliably doing the small things. Every moment is your opportunity to build that confidence.

Others can encourage you and support you, yet no one can build your own confidence for you. True confidence is something created for you by your actions.

The confidence you already have comes from the challenges you have successfully faced. Make use of that confidence, and it grows.

Every time you act to create value, you also create increased confidence. No task is too small or unimportant, for every result you work to achieve builds more confidence.

If climbing a mountain seems out of reach, start by climbing a few gentle hills. The confidence you gain will put you on your way to achieving the goals that once seemed so far away.

Today you'll encounter dozens of situations that can build your confidence. The more you choose to do, the higher you'll be able to reach, with real and lasting confidence.

WebPM Founders Meetup

Kemarin sore jam 15.00 WIB bertempat di TATOR Plaza Senayan, Saya (vikingkarwur.com) dan Satya WITOELAR (tulakom.com) bertemu. Hampir 2 tahun kami berdua menjalankan Milis WebPM (The Indonesian Web Project Managers Network) baru bertemu "offline". Biasanya hanya lewat e-mail dan YM.

Baru saja hari selasa dini hari sampai di Jakarta, dari Bali. Saya dan beberapa rekans dari Dewan Teruna GPIB (K'Sonny & K'Yanne) dan Dewan Anak GPIB (K'Robby & K'Nael) menjadi narasumber Pembinaan BPK PA-PT GPIB MUPEL Bali-NTB.

Pembinaan nya dilaksanakan tanggal 8 & 9 Desember 2006, di Kalwat Tegal Jaya, Dalung, Tuban - Bali.

Lion Air yang sering delay itu...

Mau curhat aja nih, dalam 2 bulan terakhir saya berpergian ke luar kota. Yang pertama ke Balikpapan dan yang kedua ke Bali. Saya mengunakan jasa transportasi udara dari Lion Air. Apa kesamaan nya ?

Dalam dua penerbangan Jakarta-Balikpapan & Jakarta-Bali = sama-sama delay. Wow...
Bahkan rekan saya yang pulang lebih dulu waktu hari sabtu malam dari Bali, kena delay 2 kali... yang total nya hampir 2 1/2 jam, dari waktu keberangkatan 22 WITA...

Kenapa naik Lion Air ? Karena tiketnya di beliin oleh Panitia yang mengundang saya. Jadi tidak ada pilihan lain. Next time kalau mau terbang naik yang lain ah...

Keponakanku di Bali

Waktu di Bali minggu lalu, saya berjumpa dengan keponakan-keponakanku di gambar atas ada Gregory, Nikita, Rebecca kalau Timothy ada di rumah gak ikut karena masih kecil.

Wah, kita ketemu lagi --- Om nya kangen sama keponakan-keponakan, soalnya mereka semua tinggal di Bali (satu di daerah jalan imam bonjol dan satu lagi ada di jimbaran).

Sebelum kembali ke Jakarta, semua keponakanku sudah aku kasih "hadiah natal" nya...

To Bali Today

Nanti sore, saya bersama K'Yanne (DT) dan dua kakak-kakak DA akan menuju ke Bali. Untuk menghadiri dan membawakan Pembinaan BPK PA/PT Materi Bina Dasar & Materi Bina Lanjut di daerah Badung atas undangan GPIB MUPEL Bali-NTB.

Kita dari Dewan Teruna (DT) mengutus 3 narasumber untuk membawakan pembinaan tersebut. K'Sonny akan berangkat dari Yogya menyusul besok malam.

Pembinaan nya akan dilaksanakan pada hari Jumat (besok) sampai Sabtu dengan total materi per BPK yaitu 8 Materi (yang sebenarnya ada 12 materi, fyi: dipapatkan oleh panitia).

BTW, kemarin salah satu assisten aku berulang tahun --- Selamat ya Bung Onky, GBU!

Bertemu Calon Client

Bertemu Calon Client ??? Kalau masalah yang satu ini, adalah salah satu "task" yang biasa aku lakukan sebagai freelance web designer. Seneng sih kalau di undang untuk ketemuan, baik di kantor calon client atau di tempat pilihan sang calon client. Biasanya pertemuan ini terjadi setelah calon client menghubungi saya via e-mail kemudian telephon lalu di-follow up dengan bertemu langsung.

So, biasanya saya membawa portfolio berikut dokumen untuk sang calon client. Kemudian setelah bicara-bicara masalah penawaran, dilanjutkan masalah teknis lalu ujung-ujungnya masalah harga. Pertemuan ini membuat saya dan calon client saya pastinya lebih yakin lagi untuk memulai kerja sama baru.

Ada beberapa hal yang patut dicermati oleh saya / rekan yang mempunyai professi sebagai freelancer. Silahkan baca artikel nya di sini : "Top 10 Lies told to Naive Artists and Designers" --- Guys, pertemuan dengan calon client jangan sampai kita merasa terpojok... Remember, we're professionals --- We treat all the prospect client in professionals ways. Pertemuan dengan calon client yang ujung-ujung nya bicara uang jangan sampai membuat kita "banting harga" loh... Kalau calon klien sudah mulai kelihatan "tak-bersahabat", pikirkan untuk "drop" project nya... soalnya berdasarkan pengalaman, dia akan menjadi client yang akan menyusahkan bisnis kita...

Nah, jangan lupa memakai "feeling" untuk memilih sang calon client "berharga" ngak kalau dia jadi client bisnis freelance kita... Kalau udah feeling gak enak, yah udah gak usah di terima... Kalau dia minta free-picthing apalagi ??? So drop aja... Inget, kalau kita da mulai kerja biarpun ngebuat draft design, seharusnya kita sudah menerima bayaran... nah, kalau sudah mau melaksanakan project --- pastikan dimulai dengan membuat "Surat Kontrak Kerja" (2 copy dan bermeterai), dan kamu da terima DP / retainer fee minimal 50% dari total nilai project.

Dan jangan lupa untuk "say thanks" untuk meeting yang sudah kamu lewati, bisa SMS atau send email.

Itu saja, sekedar berbagi bagi "yang akan bertemu calon client untuk bisnis freelance nya"...

The joy of being

Living in joyful harmony with life is not that difficult at all. What can be difficult is getting away from the negative patterns that have become so comfortable and familiar.

It helps when you can remind yourself often of who you are and who you are not. You are not your problems or your pleasures, and are not the collection of material objects and concerns that surround you.

You are the awareness that can find meaning and bring out purpose in it all. You are the experience of being alive and the wisdom that is able to rise above the commotion.

The negativity you wish to escape is with you only as long as you hold on to it. Can you choose to let it fall cleanly away from you?

Of course you can, and the question to ask yourself is this. When will you?

Remember that you are more than anything that could bring you down. Let go, and let the joy of being rise peacefully to the surface.

World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day, observed December 1 each year, is dedicated to raising awareness of the global AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. AIDS has killed more than 25 million people, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history. Despite recent, improved access to antiretroviral treatment and care in many regions of the world, the AIDS epidemic claimed an estimated 3.1 million (between 2.8 and 3.6 million) lives in 2005 of which, more than half a million (570,000) were children.

The concept of a World AIDS Day originated at the 1988 World Summit of Ministers of Health on Programmes for AIDS Prevention. Since then, it has been taken up by governments, international organizations and charities around the world.

From 1988 to 2004, the World AIDS Day was organized by UNAIDS, who, after consultation with other organizations, chose a theme. In 2005 UNAIDS handed over responsibility for World AIDS Day to The World AIDS Campaign (WAC), an independent organisation. For 2005, they chose Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise as the theme for World AIDS days through to 2010. This theme is not specific to World AIDS Day but also to the work WAC does throughout the year. The student element of the campaign, the Student Stop AIDS Campaign (SSAC), is a key part of increasing awareness among young people across the UK.
